Candidate Q&A

1. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FEW PRIORITIES IF ELECTED?
Andrew Neal
To encourage new economic growth of businesses, both established and new development by working with the city manager and the economic development corporation of Watauga to make those goals. I also want to see more citizen involvement with the city, whether it is by attending council meetings or reaching out through social media.

2. WHY ARE YOU THE BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE?
Andrew Neal
I earned my B.B.A. from Texas Wesleyan University, and have been in high level management positions in small and medium businesses for many years. As a leader, I understand how to listen and work with many different people and groups but still make an informed decision. I am also prepared to make a serious commitment to being a informed and involved council person. I have attended every council meeting since August 2018 (save 1 due to illness), workshop, and some board meetings to learn about our city as it currently stands. I also built relationships with current council members and I am willing to work with whomever the people of Watauga choose as their representatives.

3. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE FAIREST WAY TO BALANCE THE TAX BURDEN IN YOUR COMMUNITY BETWEEN RESIDENTS, PROPERTY OWNERS, SMALL BUSINESSES, AND LARGER EMPLOYERS?
Andrew Neal
Property tax continues to be a decent way to collect a fair share of tax revenue, as any property that is enjoyed, be it from a resident, small business, or even a large business will pay an equitable tax in relation to the value of the property. While that may seem unfair to the property owners, the tax can be distributed in a equitable manner against all.

4. PROPERTY TAXES ARE THE LARGEST SOURCE OF FUNDING FOR LOCAL SERVICES. THE STATE LEGISLATURE MAY LIMIT PROPERTY TAX REVENUE GROWTH AT 2.5 PERCENT PER YEAR. IF THIS BECOMES LAW, HOW SHOULD THE CITY COUNCIL ADDRESS THIS?
Andrew Neal
Watauga will need to seriously consider what services are offered and where to scale back. While this is not a preferred approach in reduction of services, a 2.5% growth limit is below the inflation mark. Council can help educate citizens about shopping locally to maintain sales tax revenues and encouraging business growth.

5. ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO ADD?
Andrew Neal
This council election cycle is very important, so please research all the candidates in each position and vote who you think will best serve the community as a whole. Let's all work together to continue making Watauga a great place to live.
