Job description Second-highest ranked executive of the state of Texas. Term is four years.
Duties President and presiding officer of the state Senate; appoints committees and committee chairs; proposes rules for each Senate session; decides the order for considering legislation and rules on Senate procedures.
If a Senate vote results in a tie, casts the tie-breaking vote.
Assumes the powers of the Governor if he/she is unable to serve or is absent from the state.
Annual salary $7,200, plus $190/day when legislature in session
