Jason Reeves Answer:
4. WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON VOTING LAWS? PLEASE ADDRESS WHAT IDENTIFICATION SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR REGISTERED VOTERS AT THEIR POLLING PLACES, WHETHER YOU SUPPORT ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION, AND WHAT TIME RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE PLACED ON VOTER REGISTRATION.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
Our current voter laws are inadequate and insulting the intelligence and capabilities of Americans. A simple form of government identification should be required to vote. Similar requirements to open a bank account, register a vehicle, or purchase a airplane ticket. I do not support internet voter registration at this time. Voter registration should expire 30-days prior to election.
Jason Reeves Answer:
5. DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION. ADDRESS ISSUES SUCH AS ACCESS TO FEDERAL FUNDS BY PUBLIC, PRIVATE, AND CHARTER SCHOOLS, THE ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, AND WHETHER FEDERAL FUNDS SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO ADHERENCE TO FEDERAL EDUCATION GUIDELINES.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
The education system should be a fun of the state. The federal federal government should have a very small and limited function in our national education system. However, in its current state, private schools should not have access to federal funding.
Jason Reeves Answer:
6. DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON FEDERAL IMMIGRATION REFORM, INCLUDING THE TREATMENT OF THE EXISTING POPULATION OF UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
I helped my wife legally immigrate to the United States. I know firsthand how inefficient our immigration system is and how badly it needs reform. While we work on these reforms, we must always defend our laws and secure our broken borders. Additionally, we can not violate our laws to give the benefits, protections, and entitlements of our laws to those who broke the law. These actions would undermine our legal system and our people.
Jason Reeves Answer:
7. DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO JUDICIAL DISCRETION AND THE SENTENCING OF NON-VIOLENT OFFENDERS.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
My father is an ex-convict, so this issue is personal for me. The majority of inmates are high school dropouts, addicted to substances, and/or have no job skill. They serve their time, only to be released to a world that has advanced, they try to find employment, but are unable due to a record. I want to work to reform with a five step process through: Education, Rehabilitation, Training a Skill or Trade, Future Success Plan, Repay Investment.
Jason Reeves Answer:
8. DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, INCLUDING THE ROLE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
The EPA must be transformed to an agency that works with businesses to bring forth an effective measure of sustainability. Unelected officials dictating their mandates on Americans and our economy is but reckless and unconstitutional. I recognize the need for businesses to be environmentally friendly and financially profitable. Finding the proper relationship and balance is key to any sort of Environmental Protections.
Jason Reeves Answer:
9. WHAT IS YOUR POSITION ON THE FEDERAL REGULATION OF FIREARMS UNDER THE SECOND AMENDMENT? WHAT RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE SALE AND OWNERSHIP OF FIREARMS, INCLUDING WHERE FIREARMS ARE PERMITTED?
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
The right to keep and bear arms is a God-given right enshrined in the Constitution. I will always protect it. We must also work together to prevent bad people from using weapons against innocent civilians. I believe additional work can be done to streamline the reporting system/process to keep guns out of the hands of those with mental issues.
Jason Reeves Answer:
10. DESCRIBE YOUR POSITION ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR HEALTHCARE PROVISION; PLEASE ADDRESS ISSUES SUCH AS UNIVERSAL COVERAGE, THE ROLE OF PRIVATE INSURERS, AND THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
Government and the cost of healthcare only became larger, while care decreased, when the private sector took a backseat to reforming healthcare. Texans healthcare costs increased 62% once ACA was implemented. Many Americans are skipping preventative care to avoid the expense. As a cancer survivor, preventative care is critical to survival! Also as a veteran, I have seen government-run universal healthcare; it leads to inefficiencies, long waiting periods, and can cost lives (such as with the VA). My focus will be to create a cost effective, patient-centered and market based plan.
Jason Reeves Answer:
11. WHAT LEGAL RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE REQUIRED ON ABORTIONS?
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
I believe In the sanctity and preciousness of life. I do not support this. It should be abolished.
Jason Reeves Answer:
12. DO YOU BELIEVE MARIJUANA SHOULD BE LEGAL UNDER FEDERAL LAW? ADDRESS ISSUES SUCH AS MEDICAL AND RECREATIONAL USE, THE STATUS OF MARIJUANA AS A SCHEDULE 1 DRUG, FEDERAL VS STATE RESPONSIBILITY, ETC.
Marc Veasey Answer:
Willie Billups Answer:
I am researching this issue intensely. I know many would like for it to be legalized for their adult children suffering from severe Autism. Others use it for recovering from cancer treatments. On the other side, I have spoken with friends in the law enforcement community and they see this drug as a gateway drug to future criminal behavior and/or addiction. Everyone on this issue means well and I want to make the best decision for the community once I get into office. Therefore, a more deep dive into this issue is required.
