Fort Worth redistricting: City Council work session
February 15 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am CST
Citizens for Independent Redistricting Fort Worth: A number of opportunities for public engagement are planned in the coming months, ending with the adoption of a new city council redistricting map in late March ahead of the May 2023 municipal elections.
Meetings of the Redistricting Task Force were postponed in December so the City Council could discuss details about map eligibility and provide clarification on the submission of maps from city staff members. The task force is scheduled to begin meeting again this week, and the timeline for redistricting activities has been adjusted to accommodate the December delay. The new timeline is posted on the city’s website.
This month, the task force is expected to review all the submitted maps and recommend one for council members to consider. Here is the full schedule of redistricting activities for the coming months:
• Feb. 15, 9 a.m., City Hall Room 2020. The City Council will conduct a special work session to consider changes to the initial map and to produce a proposed map.
• Feb. 21, 24, 28 and March 3. The City Council will conduct four public hearings, one for each pair of existing adjacent council districts. All four hearings will be at 6 p.m., at locations to be determined later.
• March 22, 9 a.m., City Hall Room 2020. The City Council will conduct a special work session to produce a final map.
• March 29, 10 a.m., City Hall Council Chamber. The City Council adopts the final map.
