2. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS AFFECTED ARLINGTON’S BUDGET AND SERVICES, AS WELL AS THE LIVES OF RESIDENTS. HOW WOULD YOU GRADE ARLINGTON’S RESPONSE AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
The COVID 19 pandemic should have been taken more serious by the previous administration. There would have been less of the damage and more lives saved. Having said that Arlington did as best it could under the circumstances. During the crisis is no time to debate what is best to get people help, just get it done!

3. ARLINGTON WILL BE RECEIVING NEARLY $85 MILLION IN RELIEF FUNDS FROM THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN. HOW SHOULD THAT MONEY BE SPENT?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
The American Rescue Plan funds should be used for social programs, job training, educational advancement, and infrastructure improvement. First. Then other things as needed for city use.

4. THE RECENT “BIG FREEZE” CAUSED MANY RESIDENTS TO GO WITHOUT POWER OR WATER FOR HOURS OR EVEN DAYS. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CITY’S RESPONSE (WARMING CENTERS, TRANSPORTATION, AND EMERGENCY WATER DISTRIBUTION)? HOW WOULD YOU WORK TO IMPROVE ELECTRIC/GAS/WATER INFRASTRUCTURE SO THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
The city's response to the recent freeze was good. Anytime people can receive help during times of crisis is wonderful. But improvements in the infrastructure should help to prevent any event like that from happening ever again.

5. HOW SHOULD ARLINGTON ADDRESS THE AVAILABILITY OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING? WHAT ROLE SHOULD CITY GOVERNMENT PLAY IN RESPONDING TO PANDEMIC-RELATED EVICTIONS?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
The availability of affordable housing should be available for everybody! It is funny that there has to an address of affordable housing in this day and age. It is still an issue even from 30 years ago. The same issue. Responding to pandemic related evictions should be a top priority for the simple fact that it is not the fault of the tenants! The city's response

6. IN PUBLIC REMARKS, NEW ARLINGTON POLICE CHIEF AL JONES HAS PROMISED COMMUNITY MEMBERS A “SEAT AT THE TABLE” IN DECISIONS ABOUT POLICING. HOW SHOULD THE CITY INVOLVE RESIDENTS IN POLICING DECISIONS? WHAT ARE APPROPRIATE LIMITS TO RESIDENT INVOLVEMENT?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
With all due respect, they always say that. Question is "which "community members"? There should be a citizen's review council and that does not mean the city council. The review council should include a person from each district of Arlington. The members of the review council should have information related to hiring, policies, and ratings of police officers. Every other group has a council. Schools

7. DO YOU THINK IT IS EVER APPROPRIATE FOR STATE LAWS TO OVERRIDE LOCAL CONTROL OF ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE CITY? IF SO, PLEASE PROVIDE AN EXAMPLE.
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
Yes it is appropriate for state laws to override local laws, when it concerns the safety of the citizens! When it concerns the rights of the citizens! Having said that, this state has had the opposite for its citizens. Repealing the mask rule because the people can decide for themselves in a pandemic. That is not in the best interest of the citizens. Keep that protection mandate until later in the spring. Last voting cycle, the state reduced the available drop boxes to receive ballots, that is a direct assault on the rights of the citizens.

8. DOES THE CURRENT ARLINGTON GAS DRILLING ORDINANCE PROVIDE APPROPRIATE PROTECTIONS FOR CITIZENS WHO LIVE, WORK, OR ATTEND SCHOOL NEAR DRILLING SITES? WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT THE PERMITTING AND INSPECTION PROCESS?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
There should be no drilling around neighborhood and schools! And I would change the process by which permits and inspections are done.

9. HOW DO YOU ASSESS THE CURRENT STATE OF PUBLIC TRANSIT IN ARLINGTON? WHAT SHOULD THE CITY’S TRANSIT PRIORITIES BE?
Anne Nwaefulu
Nehal L. Mehta
Billy “B. W.” McClendon, Jr.
The current state of transportation in Arlington is improving. The post pandemic activity will cause a new look into what is working and what is not working. With the advent of new technologies becoming available there may be a possibility of alternate forms of inexpensive and even free transit here in Arlington.
