2. THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HAS AFFECTED ARLINGTON’S BUDGET AND SERVICES, AS WELL AS THE LIVES OF RESIDENTS. HOW WOULD YOU GRADE ARLINGTON’S RESPONSE AND WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?
Jerry Warden |
|
Marvin Sutton Based on the availability of resources, Arlington responded well. The city issued an emergency declaration. Getting testing facilities up and running in Arlington was challenging due to funding. Resources were strategic targeted on vulnerable population and locations. Better coordination and collaboration with Tarrant County officials would facilitate a seamless process. |

4. THE RECENT “BIG FREEZE” CAUSED MANY RESIDENTS TO GO WITHOUT POWER OR WATER FOR HOURS OR EVEN DAYS. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CITY’S RESPONSE (WARMING CENTERS, TRANSPORTATION, AND EMERGENCY WATER DISTRIBUTION)? HOW WOULD YOU WORK TO IMPROVE ELECTRIC/GAS/WATER INFRASTRUCTURE SO THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN?
Jerry Warden | |
Marvin Sutton The city response was appropriate with the unusual challenges it faced. The city used Arlington Salvation Army as a warming centers and brought additional warming centers online within a few days. With FEMA assistance, the city was able to setup bottle distribution sites at key location throughout the city. ERCOT has to undergo significant reform to prevent a future malfunction in our power grid. I would encourage and support proper oversight and accountability. |
