What is a bond?A bond is essentially an IOU. Instead of going to a bank to get a loan, like an individual might do, governments can issue bonds to raise money for specific projects. An investor buys a bond on the understanding that they will be paid back, in full and with interest, on a set date (limited by law to 40 years). In most cases, governments must seek voter approval to issue a bond
What projects would this bond cover? In February 2021 the City Council voted to call a Special Election to consider a bond proposal in order to build a new Law Enforcement Center. The current Haltom City Law Enforcement Center was constructed in 1959 and served as a grocery store for many years. The city bought the property in 1995 and the Haltom City Police Department has been operating out of the building since 1997.

The new Law Enforcement Center would include:
- Enhanced security and safety improvements for visitors, police officers, and staff Restricted, private area for victims and witnesses
- Emergency Operations Center and training facilities
- Multipurpose/Community Resource Room
- Secure parking for police vehicles
- Additional work & storage space for police officers & staff - Creating space for information technology infrastructure - - Secure outside storage
