Proposition A

Ballot PropositionWhether the City of Keller Crime Control and Prevention District should be continued for fifteen (15) years and the crime control and prevention district sales tax should be continued for fifteen (15) years.

Si el Distrito de Control y Prevención del Delito de la Ciudad de Keller debe continuar durante quince (15) años y el impuesto a las ventas del distrito de control y prevención del delito debe continuar durante quince (15) años.
What is a Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD)?A CCPD is a special purpose district, which is used to support police programs and services geared toward preventing crime. The CCPD is governed by a board of directors, who are appointed by the city council. The board of directors is required to establish an annual budget, which must be approved by the city council, and the CCPD is required to submit to an independent audit on an annual basis. The CCPD is not a permanent body; voters must re-authorize its continuation.

The Keller CCPD was originally approved by voters in 2001, for a five-year period; it was renewed by voters in 2006 for fifteen years.
What does the Keller CCPD fund?Since 2001, the Keller CCPD has funded two building phases for the Keller Police facility, which includes the Regional Animal Adoption Center and the Regional Detention Facility. It also funds vehicle and technology purchases such as patrol vehicles, body-worn and in-vehicle camera systems, 911 dispatch systems, uniforms and training for regional SWAT team members, and technology and equipment used by the Criminal Investigations Division.
What is a sales and use tax? This is the formal name for a sales tax. Individuals pay sales taxes on most goods and services in Texas.
What is the current sales tax rate? The base rate for the Texas sales tax is 6.25%. However, local government agencies (cities, counties, special purpose districts and transit authorities) can hold elections to increase the sales tax in their area. By law, the maximum sales tax rate (including state and local sales taxes) is 8.25%.

The current sales tax in the city of Keller is 8.25%, of which 0.25% goes to fund the Keller CCPD.
If I vote FORThe City of Keller will continue to fund the CCPD with a 0.25% sales tax through 2036.
If I vote AGAINSTThe City of Keller will not continue to fund the CCPD.
Tax ConsequencesIf the proposition passes, Keller sales taxes will remain the same. If the proposition fails, the sales tax will be reduced by 0.25% until further action is approved by the city and/or voters.
